Simmy’s Stitches is a giving organization formed by my daughter Kandice and myself in our effort to give towards the causes that have a direct effect on our lives. I have been crocheting for 40 years following the older women in my family who have mastered the art of the craft and have made hundreds of blankets. I have made it my specialty and traditional gift to make these items for family, friends, and co-workers when they were going through a trying time from expecting a new bundle of joy to a new job. So, I only thought it necessary and natural for me to make several items for my granddaughter upon her anticipated arrival.
I make these crafts from my heart chocked full of love, detail and well wishes for its recipients. These are warm, comforting, and personalized gifts from friend to friend, spouse to spouse, parent to child and so on for any occasion. They are the calm in the storm, a memory remembered, a thank-you gift, a warm embrace, a token of a commemorative event, or an assurance of better days to come. It is my goal for these items to promote the well being and healthy living of individuals faced with health complications that have directly affected our family through a donation of a percentage of the distribution sales of these crafts to supporting organizations. It is a sign of hope, love, and well wishes and it is an honor and a pleasure to provide such a beautiful gift to such wonderful people and for such outstanding causes. www.simmystitches.org,

“My hair won’t do that!” For years, Candace and Palisa Kelley exchanged information about natural hair with inquisitive Black women on the streets who didn’t think wearing their hair natural was possible. When they created the follicle chronicles (www.folliclechronicles.com) in 2009 it was an instant hit. During the first month, the online multimedia experience about natural hair received 2,000 hits and questions from as far away as England.
Their hair line Curl Prep Natural Hair Solutions (curlprep.com) is now sold online, in stores and will soon be in the Virgin islands and Jamaica. Need a natural hair makeover or product recommendations? Catch them at one of their natural hair signature events, call 609.977.5157 or e-mail thefolliclechronices@gmail.com for an appointment at the Frank Talk Beauty Nook in Red Bank, NJ or Kas’s Hair Station in Roselle, NJ. The duo will also come to your group to explain how to make natural hair behave! If you want to step away from the perm, they can show you the tricks of the trade!
